Common gastroenterological conditions treated at Linden Surgical Center include:
- Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
This digestive disease occurs when stomach acid or occasionally, stomach content, flows back up into the esophagus. This reflux irritates the lining of the esophagus and causes GERD.If medication and life style changes do not have positive affects, a surgical procedure called fundoplication is performed. This surgery prevents stomach contents from returning to the esophagus. This is achieved by wrapping the upper portion of the stomach around the lower portion of the esophagus. This procedure can be done using minimally invasive techniques.
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
- IBS affects the large intestine causing various symptoms including cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation. It is a chronic condition that will need to be managed long term. Typically IBS is treated with a change in diet, lifestyle, and medication.
